Vikings: Lazy Breakfast

I'm not a morning person. But being in an FA-prone world I got no choice but to force myself to wake up at 6 in the morning. And that kind of sucks. 

But I'm the kind of person who wakes up for food. I'm a breakfast person. No matter how late I am for my first period, I'd still take my breakfast. Well except if I'm really really late.

Last week, Kaye invited me to join her mom's post birthday celebration at Vikings on Sunday. Well, it was kind of a forced invitation since I VOLUNTEERED myself to join them. And just because I wanted to try Vikings' Lazy Breakfast buffet, aba'y kinapalan ko na mukha ko.

Fast forward to Sunday, yesterday. I woke up really really early just because I'm super excited like that.

I've been here with a couple of friends last December and the experience was superb! And now, I got the chance to go back here and try their Lazy Breakfast (Php 688).

 The food they offer during lunch and dinner are also available in their Lazy Breakfast buffet.

 This is the oatmeal section. You can choose what you want in it and since I am no fan of oatmeal since I hate the feeling of it inside my mouth, I decided to pass on this one.

 The bread and pastry section offers a variety of wheat products from tasty breads, ciabata, pan de sals etc. Plus different jams and spreads to choose from. I wasn't able to finish these on my plate since ants appeared from nowhere on my plate. Which is kind of disgusting.

They have an omelet section beside the grilling station. You just have to tell the chef what stuffing you want to put in it -- ham, cheese, shrooms, tomatoes etc. I asked for tomatoes and mushrooms delivered on my table. Yum! :)

 At first look, you may think that these are nuggets. But these are hasbrowns! Hahaha! Golden brown and crunchy hash browns, I went back 2 times!

 These are sinful bacons. OMG. I swear I could die just seeing this. It's very oily and smells good seducing you with its goodness. I almost died! But the downside was that it was kind of salty, nevertheless, I was able to finish these monsters right here. Talk about calories. :/

 These are the different sauces you can partner with calamari, potato chips and fried crablets. The calamari was good, I must say!

 The waffles became my favorite part of the whole buffet!

You can choose what toppings to put on your waffle. I personally like the marriage between the sugar confectioner and the whip cream with chocolate syrup to top it off. 

I fail to take a picture of their cereal section. But nonetheless, you'll only see Koko Krunch and Corn Flakes. It would have been better if they included Honey Stars there. #justsaying

Van Gogh, Jetro and I have something in common

After dining in at Gayuma Ni Maria, we decided to venture the stretch of Maginhawa Village just to have coffee or tea at Van Gogh is Bipolar. Little did we know that it would take us endless back-and-forth tricycle rides just to find it! It was really funny and and fun at the same time because a) We were able to explore the whole Maginhawa Village and saw a lot of potential food trip places to try next time, b) Mukha lang naman kaming tanga na nagpapabalik-balik at nagtatanong kung saan ang Van Gogh. We even altered the pronunciation to "Van Gog" just in case the people does not understand what we're looking for.

Just to end the arguments and the numerous back and forth travels along Sikatuna Village-Maginhawa Street, Kim decided to browse it on the internet at the nearest computer shop. Everything for the love of Van Gogh. That's how determined we are to try the place!

It turned out that 154 Maginhawa Street, Sikatuna Village is behind Ted P's restaurant. I was really really ecstatic when we finally got there.

Jetro, the bipolar owner, welcomed us and gave us a tour around the place. Again, forgive me for I cannot provide a visual image but will try my best to provide a mental picture of the place. HAHA!

The place is limited to 12 persons only so you have to call one week prior to the date you want to eat in here since the place is only good for reservations. And mind you, a hundred of people call everyday just to grab reservations in here. Kim and I were lucky enough to enjoy the al fresco outside where the ambiance is just as good as the inside.

This photo above is called the "dark room". Vandalism is legal here and you can even write your deepest darkest secret. I wrote something like "I like .....:)" Don't mind the picture behind me. Haha!

But what really caught our attention was this sticky note inside the bathroom. Whoever IZA KATRINA MIRANDA is, this man wants to marry you!

You can practically do whatever you want in here EXCEPT taking your shoes inside this sanctuary. You have to go barefoot or with socks. THAT'S THE RULE.

I had fun playing with the hats. You can wear them during your stay. :)


As for the menu, we really don't know what kind of gourmet this is but it's something that can either make you feel HAPPY or needs to CALM (Php 555) you down. After the food is served, everything is self-service.


Since I don't eat fish, I went for the CALM Set Menu and just because I really need it because Php 555 is not an easy amount to splurge! 

 If I'm not mistaken this is chicken breast dish topped with cashew nuts, cheesy potatoes, lettuce and barbecue sauce.

 This is Courtney's Love Potion. You might be intrigued with the ingredients they put in here but nevertheless it was one good drink!

How do you like my hard hat? 

I was pretty surprised with the appearance of their soup since it has flower petals and banana chips in it. I was kind of hesitant to eat it at first but upon taking my first sip, I enjoyed it until the last drop.

Kim, being a damsel in distress went for the HAPPY Set Menu which is almost the same with mine, Salmon being the main course.

Wondering what's the black thing on the right side? That's their rice. :)

What sets this restaurant apart from the others besides their self-service protocol is that, HONESTY is practiced here. A red cash box is located near the kitchen window where you put your payment and get your change. It kinda reminded me of Honesty Cafe in Batanes.

This restaurant is a bit pricey for a three-course menu (Php 666) or if you choose their Php 999 five-course menu. But what you pay for is not only the food you eat but also the experience and the feeling you get in here. It's one of a kind. Plus Jetro is really accommodating that I felt bad not saying goodbye to him. The place is very relaxing and the environment itself will make you feel that you are welcome here anytime. It's like you're a house guest rather than a customer.

The next time I come back, I would like to have a moment of sharing with Jetro about his stories and experiences since I myself is going through the exact disorder as his. I would love that and it will definitely help me to cope up with this irregularity.

Gayuma Ni Maria

The first time I tried Gayuma Ni Maria was two weeks ago with my mom and my Kuya and I promised myself that the next time I come back, I'll be bringing a digicam with me.

Earlier today, my bff, Kim and I decided to take the notch up higher with regards to our Food Trip. Off we went to Maginhawa Village. Completely armed with lots of money and a digicam to not let a single shot slip the lens of the camera.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAMERA DIDN'T HAVE BATTERY DEPRIVING ME FROM USING IT FOR THE WHOLE TRIP. I WAS REALLY REALLY DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED! 

As an alternative, we settled for Kim's BB to take photos, instead.

Gayuma ni Maria is located along Sikatuna Village, V. Luna Extension near Sr. Pedro.

What I like about Gayuma is the interiors and the ambiance. It's an old fashion themed restaurant that's perfect for romantic dates or if you just want to stow away from the busy environment in the city.

I just feel bad that I fail to provide a visual representation of the whole place. :(

Moving on, since I started my no rice diet 2 days ago, I ordered their Rock Me Baby!(Php265) It's a hickory bbq pork ribs bathed in barbecue sauce.

 It's partnered with Gayuma's famous mashed potato which I really like!

I must say that I like this better than their Country Side Fling! (Php165)

On the other hand, Kim ordered Secret Lover's(Php235). Gayuma's version of Shepherd's Pie. I took a spoonful of it and it was good also. But I still like mine better. Haha! =">

And for dessert, we decided to share over Beats Sex in One Day (Php75)

I can't justify for the name but leaving the judgment to my taste buds, it lacks sweetness. Maybe because I really like my desserts super sweet.

All in all, the experience was good! It's my second time here but I think I still need to try other food variants from their Courtship to Commitments down to Flings. Everything on the menu is a must-try!!
